Snow Day Fun
So, it was just get the text that
your kids have a snow day. Now what? Where do they go? What do they do? Do you
stay home with them? Do they go to Grandma’s? First it is important of course
to have a plan so that you are not scrambling in the morning to figure it out.
Second, how are you going to keep you kids busy all day without them driving
you crazy?!
Do you have some kind of snow day
tradition? Do you have something special for breakfast? Is it a PJ day? Do you
have a movie marathon? Do you pull out the craft supplies and let them be
creative? Do you build forts and let them play all day?
Kids need to be kept busy. Just
because they have a snow day doesn’t mean they can’t go outside, unless of
course it is too cold to go out. They can have a friend over to play. If you
are stay at home mom you could offer to take your child’s friend whose parents
work.
Have a reserve of things to do when
your child says, “I’m bored!” Maybe special projects they can do that they
normally don’t get to do. Let them pick what is for lunch. They are excited to
have a snow day and so make it fun for them!
Now, where I live, Northern
Michigan, there are times where they may be a few snow days in a row. I know
YIKES!! So, what then? Well get a little more creative. If you can get out of
the house and go to lunch or a movie or to the mall so they can burn some energy,
go for it!! Too much of being at home could cause some major issues and stress on
you and your kids. Try to find some indoor activities that you can take your
kids to do. Go to the YMCA. A trip to the grocery store. Do something to get yourselves
out of the house!
You could also have them help you
with things around the house that you have been meaning to get to. Or, the
older kids could go out and shovel snow! If you can keep your kids busy then hopefully
your day or days will be smoother. Too many days inside would cause anyone to go
stir crazy!
Make snow days something fun so kids
can have a fun break but also, so they are kept busy with their time. Go visit
family close by if you are able. Get out the house. Pull out board games. Get creative
with your kids and make some fun memories so that when they are older they will
say, “Remember the fun we had when I had a snow day and you would make us
pancakes for breakfast!” Try not to dread a snow day. Make it fun!
